Proof That Christ Is The Covenant-Maker Of Daniel 9:27

1. Daniel’s prophecy of the Seventy Weeks clearly points to the coming of the Messiah: “Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and three-score and two weeks” (Dan. 9:25).

2. Isaiah had clearly prophesied that following the seventy years of the Babylonian Captivity Persian King Cyrus would issue a commandment to rebuild the city of Jerusalem (Isa. 44:28; 45:13). Cyrus made this proclamation in the year 538 B. C. That was the starting point for the entire Seventy Weeks. At the end of the first sixty-nine weeks, according to Daniel 9:25 quoted above, Jesus of Nazareth was born on July 13, 5 B.C. To understand the details of this ABSOLUTELY AMAZING prophecy that began with the proclamation of Cyrus on May 31, 538 B.C., and ended with the exact calendar birthday of Jesus Christ, please see chapter four of our book The Seventy Weeks: Sir Robert Anderson's Private Interpretation Refuted, which you may order now by clicking here

3. Daniel 9:26 explicitly foretells that the Messiah would be rejected by his very own people, the Jews, and that, as a consequence of his betrayal by the Jews, Jerusalem would be destroyed. “The people of the prince [Messiah] that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary” (Hosea 13:9; Matt: 23:35ff.).

4. The “he’’ who confirms the covenant with many for one week of Daniel 9:27 is thus also the despised and rejected prince, Messiah, of both verse 25 and verse 26. The same Hebrew word is used in both places. How strange that so many seem to find a foreshadowing of some end-time Antichrist figure in Daniel 9:26, when neither the word “Antichrist,” nor the concept of ”foreshadowing“ are ever once mentioned there!
