The Great Gospel Equilibrium

"He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still" (Rev. 22:11).

The word "equilibrium" is defined by my dictionary as "a state of rest due to the action of forces that counteract each other . . . equal balance between any powers, influences, etc.; equality of effects . . . mental balance."

Now we believe the above words of Jesus in Revelation 22:11 set forth the great gospel equilibrium that is now in effect between the time that Jesus first spoke them at the end of the first Christian century, and the day of His appearing to resurrect the dead and judge the world.

The ultimatum that now rules over all has been laid down by the Christ of history and the Lord of glory: "He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved but he that believeth not shall be damned" (Mk. 16:16).

Now the gospel is the dividing line in the whole universe of human affairs. Now there are no more Jews and Gentiles, there are only obey-ers, and the disobedient. Now, in the messianic age, the gospel makes men truly righteous; without it we would only be unjust and filthy still. The gospel is light. It is salt to preserve. It is leaven to transform.

What are the evidences of this gospel? The Holy Ghost in the heart of the sanctified! He is the Watchman that keeps the city. His omnipotent hand securely rests, unseen upon the helm, until, for every Christian pilgrim soul, the storm of life is past.

He is the Rock of Ages, transcendent, steadfast and sure. Get in the equilibrium flow, and be at rest!
