Four Ways To Avoid Financial Poverty
1. Put God first in everything you do. "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you" (Matt. 6:33).
2. Give generously to the support of the Lord's work. "Honor the Lord with thy substance, and with the first fruits of all thine increase: So shall they barns be filled with plenty, and the presses shall burst out with new wine" (Prov. 3:9-10).
3. Avoid debts like the plague. "Owe no man anything but to love one another" (Rom. 13:8a).
4. Resist negative social programming. John Wesley said "It is better to put ten men to work, then to do the work of ten men." Wealthy people have learned the secret that it is better to earn a small percent of many people's efforts, than to earn 100% of their own.
Enthusiasm is the highest paid quality on earth. Avoid poverty by changing a sour outlook into an attitude that reflects more zest for life.
Here is a quote worth remembering from the dying testimony of Rev. John S. Inskip, nineteenth century first president of the National Association for the Promotion of Holiness: "I am glad I have worked hard all my life."
"He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand; but the hand of the diligent maketh rich" (Prov. 10:4).
